Designing, making, and fitting dental bridges is one of the most beneficial treatments we offer our patients.

Your dental bridge will ensure the gaps in your smile disappear, along with feelings of self-consciousness that can accompany living without a full set of teeth.

Introduction to dental bridges

Treatment time: 3-4 appointments.
Purpose: To replace lost teeth/restorations that no longer fit or have become damaged.
Results: You will have a full set of functional teeth again.
Anaesthetic: Yes.

A dental bridge is a restoration that encompasses two teeth on either side in the gaps across your smile. One crown goes on either side of the gap, and a false tooth fits in between, made from either porcelain, gold or alloys.

Benefits of a dental bridge

  • Reorganise the biting forces evenly across your mouth.
  • Help to prevent tooth wear.
  • Stop teeth from moving out of their natural position.
  • Give structure to the mid to lower regions of the face.
  • Chew without any problems.
  • Speak more fluently and clearly.

What is the process behind getting a dental bridge?

Step 1: Consultation to assess your mouth and prepare your teeth. The teeth that will receive the crowns may need to be shaved down so they are of optimal thickness for crown placement.
Step 2: Impressions of your teeth are taken. The dental lab will use these to make your bespoke bridge and crowns. The tooth shade will be matched to your own. You will be provided with a temporary bridge to wear whilst your permanent bridge is being created in the dental lab.
Step 3: Your permanent bridge will be fitted. Your dentist will not cement this in place until they are satisfied with your biting and chewing function. Strong dental cement is used to place your bridge.

FAQs

Is a bridge the most effective solution for tooth replacement?

A bridge is a cost-effective way to replace missing teeth. However, when combined with implants, a bridge provides an unmatched level of chewing and biting function. Bridges affixed with implants can also fortify your jawbone and stop it from wasting away due to lack of stimulus.

Will it be easier to eat with my bridge?

Whilst it may take a couple of weeks to get used to eating with your bridge, you will eventually find that foods which were previously challenging to eat become an option again – most notably chewy and hard foods like starchy bread (like bagels) and tougher meats such as lamb and steak.

How long does a dental bridge last?

A dental bridge can last between 5 and 15 years, though this estimate can be exceeded in patients who take good care of their oral health. We will provide clear long- and short-term aftercare instructions for getting the best out of your bridge.
